VHS & Camcorder Tapes to Digital in Logan

One Logan drop-off at Crestmead, or post from anywhere

Tapes To Digital converts VHS, VHS-C, MiniDV, Video 8, Hi8, Digital 8 and 8mm film in Logan. The drop-off is at Crestmead, on Parkside Drive — by appointment, not a shopfront — and it is our only Queensland location. Conversion is $45 per tape for 1–4, down to $24 each at 30 or more, GST included. Most orders are ready in 7–10 business days, and you can post tapes from anywhere in Australia at the same price.

Old VHS and camcorder tapes ready for conversion in Logan

One price, and that is everything.

$45 a tape for one to four tapes covers up to 3 hours of footage per tape, MP4 files that play on any phone, computer or smart TV, no charge for blank tapes or transfers we cannot complete, and your original tapes back. Larger collections cost less per tape: $38 from five, $32 from eleven, $28 from twenty-one and $24 from thirty. Mixed formats count together, so six VHS and four MiniDV tapes are all charged at the five-to-ten rate. MP4 is the standard file; the archival AVI/MOV master is available at the same price on request.

Why Logan families choose Tapes To Digital

Not every tape service works the same way. Many use consumer capture sticks that produce grainy, washed-out footage, quote a low per-tape price and then add fees at the end. We take a different approach.

Professional converters icon

Professional converters

Your tapes are converted using professional converters, not consumer capture sticks. MiniDV in particular often has to be played back on a camcorder matching the brand it was recorded on, which is why we keep several.

A drop-off in Logan

Crestmead is a by-appointment drop-off rather than a shopfront, so book a time and the exact Parkside Drive address comes with your confirmation. It is the only Tapes To Digital drop-off in Queensland. Anywhere else, post your tapes at the same price.

Turnaround time icon

Ready in 7–10 business days

Most orders are ready in 7–10 business days from the day we receive your tapes. Tapes are converted in real time, so a large collection takes proportionally longer. Small urgent orders can often be turned around in a day or two — say so when you book.

Formats we convert

f-image

VHS and VHS-C

The full-size home video cassette, and the compact VHS-C cassettes that went with camcorders. Both lose colour and develop tracking faults as they age. Same per-tape price as every other tape format.

f-image

MiniDV

The camcorder tape of the late 1990s and 2000s. MiniDV often has to be played back on a camcorder matching the brand it was recorded on, which is why we keep several.

f-image

Video 8 and Hi8

The compact 8mm camcorder cassettes. After decades in storage they often show faded colour, static and playback errors. Same per-tape price as VHS.

f-image

Digital 8

Digital recording on the same 8mm shell. These cassettes are often awkward on ageing camcorders; converted using professional converters, not consumer capture sticks.

f-image

8mm and Super 8 film

Cine reels are scanned frame by frame to HD MP4. Priced by reel rather than by the foot: from $35 for a 3-inch reel up to $105 for a 9-inch reel, whatever the running time.

Other tapes, discs and audio

Also accepted at the Crestmead drop-off: Betamax (the tape rate plus $10), Betacam at $65 or $95 by cassette size, audio cassettes and home-recorded DVDs. MicroMV is available on request at selected locations — ask us. Not sure what a tape is? Bring it in and we will identify it.

No surprises at the end

One number, not a headline price with extras added later.

Some services advertise a lower per-tape price and then add a download fee, a USB, a per-tape checking fee and return postage at the end. Ours is one number. It covers up to 3 hours of footage per tape, MP4 files, and your original tapes back, and there is no charge for blank tapes or transfers we cannot complete — if a tape turns out to be empty, recorded over or too far gone to play, you are not billed for it. We will match any competitor's price for the same service.

Converting tapes in Logan: your questions answered

Where can I convert VHS to digital in Logan?

Tapes To Digital has a by-appointment drop-off at Crestmead, on Parkside Drive, in the City of Logan. It is a booked drop-off rather than a shopfront, so the exact street address comes with your confirmation, and it is our only Queensland location — one of 11 across Australia. You can also post tapes from anywhere in Australia at the same per-tape price. Conversion is $45 per tape for 1–4, down to $24 each at 30 or more, GST included, and most orders are ready in 7–10 business days.

Which Logan suburbs does the Crestmead drop-off serve?

All of them. Crestmead sits 6.3 km south-south-west of Logan Central, so it is a short drive from Browns Plains, Marsden, Berrinba, Waterford West, Park Ridge, Logan Reserve and Heritage Park, and an easy run from Logan Central, Springwood, Loganholme, Shailer Park, Daisy Hill, Waterford and Beenleigh. Crestmead has no railway station, so plan to drive or be dropped off. If the trip does not suit, post your tapes from anywhere in Australia at exactly the same price.

Do I need to book, or can I just turn up?

Yes, please book. Crestmead is a by-appointment drop-off rather than a shop, so there is nobody at a counter waiting for walk-ins. Booking takes a minute online, by phone on +61 485 031 678 or on WhatsApp, and your confirmation carries the exact Parkside Drive address. One tape or fifty, it works the same way. If you find more tapes after booking, bring them along — same bulk rate.

How much does it cost to convert tapes to digital in Logan?

The same per-tape price at the Crestmead drop-off as by post: $45 for 1–4 tapes, $38 for 5–10, $32 for 11–20, $28 for 21–30 and $24 for 30 or more, GST included. Mixed formats count together, so six VHS and four MiniDV are all charged at the 5–10 rate. Every price includes up to 3 hours per tape and an MP4 of every tape. A DVD is optional at $12 per disc. Betamax is $10 above the tape rate, Betacam is $65 or $95 by cassette size, and 8mm film is priced by reel from $35.

How long does it take?

Most orders are ready in 7–10 business days from the day we receive your tapes, whether you drop off at Crestmead or post them. Tapes are converted in real time, so a large collection takes longer than a handful. Small order with a deadline? Say so when you book — those can often be turned around in 1–2 days. We message you as soon as your files are ready.

What do I get back?

An MP4 of every tape as standard — it plays on any phone, computer or smart TV, and it is what most people want. If you would also like the archival AVI/MOV master, just ask: it is available at the same price. It is a much larger file, and worth having if you plan to edit the footage or keep a long-term master. Up to 3 hours per tape is included; beyond that it is $11 per extra 90 minutes, confirmed at the end of the job. Files come on USB, hard drive or as a download, and a DVD is optional at $12 per disc.

Will I get my original tapes back?

Yes, always. Every original tape comes back with your digital files. Each tape is listed on your receipt at drop-off, so you can check them off when they return. Once you hold a digital copy the tape is a backup rather than your only copy — but that decision is yours, and most families keep them.

Which formats can I bring to the Crestmead drop-off?

VHS, VHS-C, MiniDV, Video 8, Hi8, Digital 8, Betamax and Betacam tapes, audio cassettes, home-recorded DVDs and 8mm cine film. Most tape formats share one per-tape price and count together towards the bulk discount. Betamax is $10 above that rate, Betacam is $65 or $95 by tape size, and cine film is priced by reel from $35. MicroMV is available on request at selected locations — ask us. Not sure what a tape is? Bring it in and we will identify it. Mouldy or damaged tapes can be cleaned or repaired from $28 each before conversion; the assessment is free, and if we cannot repair it there is no charge.

Do I pay if a tape is blank or cannot be converted?

No. You are not charged for a tape that turns out to be blank, recorded over, or too far gone to play — it comes back to you with the rest of your order. The one exception is a batch that is mostly blanks: checking those still takes real time, so we may add a small handling fee, and we would tell you before we did. Where a tape is damaged but recoverable, cleaning or repair is from $28 on top of conversion.

Can I post my tapes instead of coming to Crestmead?

Yes — from anywhere in Australia, at exactly the same per-tape price, the same 7–10 business day turnaround from arrival, and the same files. Message us on WhatsApp or email with roughly how many tapes you have and what formats, and we will reply with a quote and where to send them. Your original tapes come back with your files.

I am in Brisbane rather than Logan — can I still use Crestmead?

Of course. Crestmead is the only Tapes To Digital drop-off in Queensland, and Brisbane customers are welcome. Be realistic about the distance, though: Crestmead is 30.4 km south-south-east of the Brisbane CBD, so it is a genuine trip from the inner city or the northern suburbs. If that does not suit, post your tapes instead — same per-tape price, same 7–10 business day turnaround from the day they arrive, and your originals come back with your files.

Do you offer pick-up in Logan, or only drop-off?

Drop-off and post are the two standard options. Book a time at Crestmead, or post your tapes from anywhere in Australia at exactly the same per-tape price. If neither suits, call +61 485 031 678 or message us on WhatsApp with your suburb and roughly how many tapes you have, and we will tell you what we can arrange.

Do I collect my tapes in Logan, or are they posted back?

Either — whichever suits you. We message you as soon as your files are ready, then you can collect from Crestmead at a booked time, or we will post everything back to you, tapes and files together. Tell us which you would prefer when you book; you can change your mind later.

Still not sure? Ask us.

Tell us roughly how many tapes you have and what they are, and we'll come back with a price and a drop-off time.
