Convert VHS, Camcorder & 8mm Tapes to Digital in Adelaide

Tapes to Digital in Adelaide

Tapes To Digital converts VHS, VHS-C, MiniDV, Video 8, Hi8, camcorder tapes, audio cassettes and 8mm film to digital in Adelaide, from $24 a tape including GST.

  • There are two by-appointment drop-offs — Basnett Street, Kurralta Park SA 5037, about 4 km south-west of the CBD, and Nora Road, Virginia SA 5120 in the northern market-garden district — or post your tapes from anywhere in Australia at exactly the same price. Most orders are ready in 7–10 business days from the day we receive them, and every original tape comes back to you.
Old VHS and camcorder tapes ready for conversion

Every tape is converted using professional converters, not consumer capture sticks — and one price covers every format on the ladder.

  • You receive an MP4 as standard, with the uncompressed archival AVI/MOV master available at the same price on request. Up to 3 hours of footage per tape is included. Mixed formats count together for the bulk discount, so six VHS and four MiniDV are charged as ten tapes at $35 each. A DVD is optional at $12 per disc. There is no charge for blank tapes, or for transfers we cannot complete.

Why Adelaide families choose Tapes To Digital

Not every tape-conversion service is the same. Many run on the consumer capture sticks sold online, which produce grainy, washed-out footage. Every Tapes To Digital transfer runs on professional converters instead, and the price is identical whether you drop off in Adelaide or post from anywhere in Australia.

Professional converter equipment

Professional converters

Transfers run on professional converters, not the consumer capture sticks sold online, and in real time from start to finish. MiniDV in particular often has to be played back on a camcorder matching the brand it was recorded on, which is why we keep several.

$45 for a single tape, falling to $24 each for 31 or more, GST included and identical by post. Most orders are ready in 7–10 business days from the day we receive them — tell us if you have a deadline and we will say straight away whether we can meet it.

Our Services in Adelaide

f-image

VHS to Digital Adelaide

VHS tapes degrade quickly, often showing static, colour bleeding, and tracking issues. Our Adelaide team carefully converts VHS tapes into digital formats such as MP4 or MOV. Each transfer is cleaned, stabilised, and optimised to ensure smooth playback.

f-image

MiniDV to Digital Adelaide

MiniDV camcorders captured countless family events in the 1990s and 2000s. Unfortunately, the tapes are fragile and easily damaged. We digitise MiniDV tapes with professional equipment, preserving both video and sound quality.

f-image

Video8 to Digital Adelaide

Video8 was one of the earliest compact camcorder formats. After decades of storage, these tapes often suffer from colour fading, static, and playback errors. We carefully digitise Video8 using calibrated equipment, producing stable, clear files.

f-image

Hi8 to Digital Adelaide

Hi8 offered sharper image quality than its predecessor, but the tapes are just as fragile. We transfer Hi8 recordings using professional converters, not consumer capture sticks, preserving both video and audio detail while correcting issues such as shaky playback and muffled sound.

f-image

Digital8 to Digital Adelaide

Digital8 brought digital recording to the 8mm tape family, but these cassettes often experience compatibility problems on ageing camcorders. We read Digital8 reliably using professional converters, not consumer capture sticks, ensuring a smooth transfer with accurate sound and picture synchronisation.

f-image

8mm Film to Digital Adelaide

8mm film reels are especially vulnerable to fading and mould. Our experts handle these reels with care, scanning them frame by frame and delivering them in crisp digital resolution. This process ensures your home movies from decades past will live on for future generations.

Quality matters

What sets a good transfer apart is what happens to the tape, not what happens afterwards.

  • Every transfer runs on professional converters rather than the consumer capture sticks sold online, and plays in real time from start to finish, so nothing is skipped or sped up. You get an MP4 for watching and sharing, and the uncompressed archival AVI/MOV master at the same price if you ask for it. Mouldy or damaged tapes can usually be cleaned or repaired from $28 a tape — assessment is free and quoted before any work starts, and if we cannot repair it there is no charge. Do not try playing a mouldy tape at home; that is how a recoverable tape becomes an unrecoverable one.

Converting tapes in Adelaide: your questions answered

Where are the Tapes To Digital drop-offs in Adelaide?

There are two. Kurralta Park is on Basnett Street, Kurralta Park SA 5037, about 4 km south-west of the Adelaide CBD in the City of West Torrens. Virginia is on Nora Road, Virginia SA 5120, about 35 km north of the CBD in the City of Playford. Both are by-appointment drop-offs rather than shopfronts, so the exact street address is sent with your booking confirmation rather than published here. Book a time online, call +61 485 031 678 or message us on WhatsApp, then bring your tapes at the time you choose.

Can I post my tapes instead of coming to Adelaide?

Yes. Tapes To Digital takes tapes by post from anywhere in Australia at exactly the same per-tape price as the Adelaide drop-offs, with the same 7–10 business day turnaround from the day they arrive and the same files for every tape. Message us first on WhatsApp or email with roughly how many tapes you have and their formats, and we will reply with a quote and where to send them. Your original tapes come back with your files.

How much does it cost to convert tapes to digital in Adelaide?

Tapes To Digital charges the same per-tape price in Adelaide as at every other location and by post: $45 for a single tape, $39 each for 2–4, $35 each for 5–10, $32 each for 11–20, $28 each for 21–30 and $24 each for 31 or more, GST included. Mixed formats count together towards the discount, so six VHS and four MiniDV tapes are all charged at the 5–10 rate. Every price includes up to 3 hours of footage per tape and an MP4 file, with the archival AVI/MOV master available at the same price on request. A DVD is optional at $12 per disc.

How long does it take?

Most Tapes To Digital orders are ready in 7–10 business days from the day we receive your tapes, whether you drop them at Kurralta Park or Virginia or post them in. Tapes are converted in real time, so a large collection takes longer than a handful. If you have a small order and a deadline, say so when you book — small orders can often be turned around in a day to a few days. We message you as soon as your files are ready.

Which formats can I bring to Adelaide?

VHS, VHS-C, MiniDV, Video 8, Hi8, Digital 8, Betamax and Betacam tapes, audio cassettes, home-recorded DVDs and 8mm cine film. Most tape formats share one per-tape price and count together towards the bulk discount. Betamax is $10 above that rate, Betacam is $65 or $95 depending on tape size, and cine film is priced by reel from $35 for a 3-inch reel and scanned frame by frame. Tapes recorded in the US (NTSC) or France (SECAM) are $11 extra per tape. MicroMV is available on request at selected locations — ask us. Not sure what a tape is? Bring it in and we will identify it.

What do I get back?

An MP4 for every tape as standard, which plays on any phone, computer or smart TV. If you also want the uncompressed archival AVI/MOV master for long-term keeping, just ask — it is available at the same price. Up to 3 hours of footage per tape is included; anything beyond that is $11 per extra 90 minutes, confirmed with you at the end of the job. Files are supplied on USB, on an external hard drive or as a download link. A DVD is optional at $12 per disc, one disc per 2 hours of footage, split across discs rather than compressed.

Will I get my original tapes back?

Yes, always. Tapes To Digital returns every original tape with your digital files. Each tape you hand over is listed on your receipt at drop-off, so you can check them off when they come back. Once you hold the digital files the tape is a backup rather than your only copy, but the decision to keep it is yours, and most families do.

My tape is longer than 3 hours. Does it cost more?

Up to 3 hours of footage per tape is included in every price; anything beyond that is $11 per extra 90 minutes. A tape's recorded length can't be read from the cassette, so it is only known once the tape has been played through, and any extra-length charge is confirmed at the end of the job.

Can you convert American or overseas tapes?

Yes. Tapes recorded in the USA (NTSC) or France (SECAM) are $11 extra per tape on top of the standard price. If you're not sure where a tape was recorded, bring it in and we'll check it.

Can you fix mouldy or damaged tapes?

Yes. Cleaning mould and debris, and repairing snapped or damaged tapes, starts at $28 per tape on top of the conversion price. We assess every tape first — the assessment is free and quoted before any work starts, and if we cannot repair it there is no charge. If a tape looks mouldy, don't play it at home — bring it in as it is.

Can I get my videos on DVD?

Yes. A DVD copy is $12 per disc on top of your digital files. One disc holds up to 2 hours, so longer recordings are split across discs rather than compressed.

How do I book a drop-off in Adelaide?

Book a time online at Kurralta Park, Virginia, or message us on WhatsApp or call +61 485 031 678. Every drop-off is by appointment and the exact address comes with your confirmation. Prefer to post? Message us first and we'll send you a quote and where to send your tapes.

Do I need to book, or can I just turn up?

Yes, please book. Both Adelaide locations are by-appointment drop-offs, not shops, so there is nobody at a counter waiting for walk-ins. Booking takes a minute online, by phone on +61 485 031 678 or on WhatsApp, and your confirmation carries the exact address. One tape or fifty, the booking works the same way. If you find more tapes after booking, bring them along; they are added to your order at the same rate.

Do I pay if a tape is blank or can't be converted?

No. There is no charge for blank tapes or for transfers Tapes To Digital cannot complete. If a tape turns out to be empty, recorded over or too far gone to play, you are not billed for it and it comes back to you with the rest of your order. Where a tape is mouldy or damaged but recoverable, cleaning or repair is from $28 per tape on top of the conversion price — the assessment is free and quoted before any work starts, and if we cannot repair it there is no charge.

Which Adelaide drop-off is closest to me?

The two are about 40 km apart, so the answer is usually obvious. Kurralta Park suits anyone coming from the CBD, the western suburbs or the south-west — Ashford, Mile End, Torrensville, Richmond, Plympton, Netley, Glandore, Lockleys, Novar Gardens and the rest of the City of West Torrens. Virginia suits the northern suburbs and the Adelaide Plains — Two Wells, Lewiston, Buckland Park, Waterloo Corner, Penfield and Elizabeth. Both charge the same prices and work the same way, so choose whichever is easier to reach. If neither suits, post your tapes from anywhere in Australia at the same per-tape price.

Do I collect my tapes from the drop-off, or are they posted back?

Either — it is your choice. You can collect your tapes and files from the same Adelaide drop-off at a booked time, or we can post everything back to you. Tell us which you would prefer when you book, and we will confirm it with your order. We message you as soon as your files are ready.

Still not sure? Ask us.

Tell us roughly how many tapes you have and what they are, and we'll come back with a price and a drop-off time.
