How much does it cost to convert tapes to digital in Australia?

Tapes To Digital charges $45 per tape for 1 to 4 tapes, $38 each for 5 to 10, $32 each for 11 to 20, $28 each for 21 to 30, and $24 each for 30 or more. All prices include GST. The same rate covers VHS, VHS-C, MiniDV, Video 8, Hi8, Digital 8, DVDs and audio cassettes, and mixed formats count together towards the same quantity discount.

Are there any extra charges?

A DVD copy is $12 per disc, with one disc per 2 hours so long recordings are split across discs rather than compressed. US (NTSC) or French (SECAM) tapes are $15 extra per tape. Mould cleaning or tape repair starts at $28 per tape; assessment is free and quoted before any work begins, and if we cannot repair it there is no charge. There is no charge for blank tapes or transfers we cannot complete.

Do Betamax and HDV tapes cost the same as other formats?

No. Betamax is $10 more per tape than the standard rate, starting at $55 for 1 to 4 tapes and falling to $34 for 30 or more, and it counts towards the same quantity total as your other tapes. HDV MiniDV is $25 more per tape, starting at $70 and falling to $49, and is priced on its own rather than counting towards the bulk total.

Can I mix different formats in one order?

Yes. VHS, VHS-C, MiniDV, Video 8, Hi8, Digital 8, DVDs and audio cassettes all count together towards the same quantity discount, so a box of mixed formats is priced on the total number of items. HDV tapes are the exception and are priced separately.

How is 8mm and Super 8 film priced?

Film is priced by reel size rather than per tape: 3 inch $35, 4 inch $55, 5 inch $65, 7 inch $85, 8 inch $95 and 9 inch $105. Film is scanned frame by frame and supplied as HD MP4. Larger collections are discounted on request.

Is the price the same whether I drop off or post my tapes?

Yes. The per-item price is the same whether you drop off at one of our 11 Australian locations or post your tapes in. Collection from the same location or return by post are both available.
